The longer my hair got after growing it out.. the more I realized I needed east mom hairstyles for long hair

I love having long hair but dang!

It can really get in the way when I’m caring for my children

My first thought was to join the mom bun group, but those buns give me terrible headaches

I want to be comfortable and I think you do too

So after lots of testing on my own head, I now have some hairstyles that I love

These are cute, quick, easy, and usually last the day

Being a mom is hard…

Let me help you get your hair out of the way!

How do moms keep their hair long?

Being a new mom is hard

I have always loved my long hair, but I did not love it as a new mom of twins

I did end up cutting my hair but I missed it after a year and grew it back out

Now my kids are 3 years old and I have long hair again

I learned quickly that the only way to survive being a mom with long hair is to learn how to get it out of my way

I tried the classic mom bun but it gave me a headache

Fast

So I just tested some hairstyles until I found things that:

  1. I liked the look of
  2. Are easy and fast to do
  3. Will last me all-day
  4. Did not give me headaches

It was kind of fun putting hairstyles through the tests!

Some of them work best right after a shower and some of them do not

If you want to keep your long hair as a new mom, you will have to figure out what works for you

But I can provide my favorite hairstyles to get you started!

How do new moms style their hair?

Every mom is going to have a little different story, but I think we can all agree that there isn’t enough time every day

As a new mom, I recommend finding hairstyles that are fast, long-lasting and still make you feel good

I tend to get headaches so the hairstyles I choose may be different from what you choose

But the key is fast and easy

Many moms struggle with the time to shower, much less the time to style their hair

I like to have my hair pulled back

It makes taking care of my kids easier because it doesn’t get in the way

I love having my hair curled, but it just isn’t practical

At the same time, I don’t want to push aside my needs

I like to feel pretty

So I created a list of easy hairstyles that are still super cute!

Is it ok to have a haircut after giving birth?

Before I give you my list of easy mom hairstyles for long hair, I want to establish one thing

It is more than ok to cut your hair after giving birth

I did! I cut my hair super short

Like I couldn’t pinch the back of my hair together because it was so short

It got my “what would short hair be like” out of my system

And make having twin newborns easier

I was exclusively pumping for my kids and my hair was terrible for that!

It was always in the way and made everything harder

If you feel like you need (or want) to cut your hair

Do it!

Worse case… it will grow back

7 easy mom hairstyles for long hair

These hairstyles are mostly types, but I will show you specific examples within the categories

So enjoy and have fun testing what works well for you!

1. Hair sticks

I just recently got a set of hair sticks on amazon

I had no idea how to use them but they were cute!

They are now my favorite out of my easy mom hairstyles for long hair

There are a lot of different styles you can do with hair sticks, but I mostly do one of the most simple

I start with my hair down and pull it all together in my hand

Then I put the hair stick under my hair

Twist the stick around your hair a few times (three times is what works for me)

And then stick it through the top of your hair

It took a few tries to get it right

It is tight enough to stay in my hair

But not so tight that I get headaches

It is so fast and so cute that this is my go-to hairstyle now!

2. Buns

Buns are the most famous hairstyle for moms

They are fast and get your hair out the way

I am not a fan because they give me headaches, but I had to include it as a real option for moms!

If I do wear a bun, I combine the bun and hair stick styles

To do this, you twist your hair and keep going until it naturally twists into a bun

Then take a hair stick and weave it between the bun and your scalp

I like to add a second hair stick because it is cute and stronger!

3. Tuck styles

Tuck hairstyles are another favorite!

I only do it when my hair is wet and I need to quickly get it out of the way

First, you make a small braid on both sides of your head next to your ears

Then you use an elastic to connect them in the back

Take a regular hair tie and make a ponytail in the middle of your head

Make a hold in the bottom area of your hair and start stuffing your ponytail into that hole

Be careful not to put the hair through the top

Keep going until you push the hair tie through the hole too

There you have it!

I have used this hairstyle for a full day of work

It takes time to get down, but it is super sturdy once you have it mastered!

4. Braids

Braids are beautiful and sturdy, but they can take practice

I like to put my hair in a dutch or a french braid after a shower

I will also only do a hard braid and leave the rest down

To do a Dutch braid, start at the front of your hair where your bands are/would be

Separate a small amount of hair into three parts

Put the left strand under the middle, then the right under the middle

Once you are on the left again, grab a small amount of hair from the left side of your head and add it before putting the strand under the middle strand again

Then do the same on the right

Keep repeating this process until you have no hair to add, and finish the braid like normal

French braids are exactly the same except you put the hair over the middle strand

If you want half up and half down braid, just stop grabbing hair halfway through and tie your hair with an elastic

You can do these with dry hair, but I find them a lot harder that way so I braid with wet hair

5. Ponytails

Ponytails are another famous quick hairstyle

I like ponytails but they also tend to give me headaches

They also don’t always get the hair out of my way enough

An option to better ponytails if you are the same is to braid the ponytail (one braid or many)

Even though it isn’t my favorite, it is still a good option for moms

6. Pulled back with accessories

There are many accessories that you can get that make putting up your hair super quick and easy

You can use a hair band, hair clip, and many other options

Hair sticks technically fall into this category too

Just try different things and see what feels good!

7. Wearing a hat

If all else fails, hairs are always there to help!

If the greasy hair cannot be tamed and I’ve used dry shampoo too many times, a hat is a perfect solution

I know many moms where this is the go-to!

There are hats where you can insert a ponytail into the hat and it is so convenient!

You can have fun choosing the hat you love and always have a 2-second hairstyle!
