After some time being a mom and finding out how exhausting it was, I quickly learned that I needed quick self-care ideas for moms
I wanted to take care of myself, but sometimes I don’t even get to use the bathroom because I’m so busy!
The good news is that even these quick self-care ideas for moms can make a huge difference in your life
What is self-care?
Self-care is actions that you take to take care of your body, soul, and mind
These actions make you feel better, make you happier, and give you energy
Self-care can be taking a shower, drying your hair, and putting on makeup
Or self-care can look like meditation for 15-minutes
Hobbies are great options for self-care
What do you like to do?
By doing things that make you feel happy, your general well-being gets better
Doing self-care can actually make you a better mom!
This is because we work better when we feel good
There is more energy in your step and more excitement for daily life
When I take the time to care for my physical and emotional needs, everything I touch gets a little better care
I feel happier, and that transfers to my family
Self-care is the maintenance we need as humans
Why is it important for moms?
Moms are the base of their homes (usually)
If mom is stressed, everyone feels it
If mom is happy, everyone feels it!
Moms have one of the hardest and most important jobs in the world
We are responsible for the next generation
We help them thrive now and learn how to thrive as adults
But even with all the importance that moms have, we forget that we need maintenance
Would you expect your phone to work without recharging it?
Or expect your car to run without maintenance?
NO!
Humans are the same way
It is important for moms to practice self-care because we need it to be the best versions of ourselves
How do I balance self-care as a mom?
Now that you know how important self-care is for moms…
Now the hard part
How to balance self-care when you are a mom
I don’t know about you, but I struggle to get time in the bathroom alone
How am I supposed to get time to do anything for myself??
Well, there are many things you can do that don’t take a lot of time
Maybe you can put on a short show for the kids, or do it during snack time when they are busy
Pay attention to the little gaps that happen when the kids don’t need your full attention
Those are good times to add self-care
There are many self-care ideas that don’t take long (see ideas below)
It doesn’t take much to do something nice for you
11 Quick self-care ideas for moms
As promised, here are some quick self-care ideas for moms
You can do them all at once, or do a little in the gaps you found in the previous section
It doesn’t have to be perfect
But practicing putting some effort into your physical and emotional health is important
And just the mindset change from not taking it seriously to truly caring can make a big difference
1. Read 10 pages of a book you love
I love to read
I mostly read non-fiction, but I will read one once in a while
The thing is… I am busy as a mom
I let that get to my head and stopped reading for a long time
But I don’t need hours to make good progress on a book
When I was learning to take time for myself again, I made a goal to read 10 pages a day
It didn’t take a lot of time, but it felt good to be reading again
2. Paint your nails
I like to paint my nails with gel nail polish
I like it because it only takes a minute to dry each layer so I can take care of my kids if they need something and go back where I left off
Painting my nails is a fun and flexible way to spend time on myself
This isn’t for everyone but it is a great option if you do like it!
3. Exercise
Exercise is amazing for your body and mind
And it doesn’t take a lot of time to get those benefits!
I spend about 15 minutes practicing yoga and I feel sore but amazing after
Exercise doesn’t have to be intense
It just needs to get your body moving!
4. Meditate
Meditation is one of my favorite ways to calm down and feel better when I don’t have a lot of time
Meditation can be 30-minutes, or it can be 5-minutes!
Whatever you have time for, meditation will work for you
5. Affirmations
Affirmations are another speedy way to make you feel better
Especially if you make it fun!
Say your affirmations in fun voices or sing them
They will improve your mental health and make you feel happier
6. Declutter
I don’t enjoy decluttering itself
I have to make choices on what to keep and what to let go of
But…
I really enjoy my home when it is clean and clutter-free
I feel calmer and less stressed
So even if you don’t like the act of decluttering, the result could be great for you!
7. Dance party
Can’t get time away from the kids?
That’s ok!
There are many quick self-care ideas for moms that include your kids
One of my favorites is to have a dance party
They are so much fun for all of us!
Dance parties boost our moods and make all of us feel a little better
8. Write in your journal
I struggle with journaling unless I am really struggling mentally
But journaling really helps a lot of people!

9. Learn something new
There are few things that can boost my mental health and self-esteem more than learning something new
I love it!
I love the challenge and overcoming the challenge
If you are the same way, spend a few minutes every day learning something new
It doesn’t have to take long, but can still do wonders for you!
10. Enjoy crafting
Crafting can be easy or hard with kids depending on your situation
I like to crochet
I will spend a little time working on my current project, and just mark my spot if I need to stop and do something for my kids
Then I can choose to return to my project or return to it the next day
11. Deep breathing with a candle
Deep breathing alone can do wonders for your mental health, and I love adding a candle!
I use lavender candles to add to the relaxation of my deep breathing
